Located in the South East part of Cambodia, Mondulkiri Province is one of the most overlooked destinations in the country. It boasts a huge upland area surrounded by forests and waterfalls. Indeed, it is a paradise for travelers who like to explore lush nature and experience outdoor activities.
The province is most notable for its abundance of animals as well as being home to Cambodia's elephant sanctuary. Located inside the massive Seima Protected Forest, the sanctuary holds an estimated 150 wild elephants. The forest also hosts a population of mammalian wildlife, including gibbons, bears, and huge cat species.
Aside from the wildlife, you can also explore numerous waterfalls in the province. One of the most popular destinations is the Bou Sra Waterfall in Sen Monorom. This double-drop waterfall is famous throughout the country, offering a breathtaking sight for travelers and locals alike. If you want a more thrilling experience, you can try to zoom across the falls through a zip line. Can't get enough of the waterfalls? You can also visit the Monorom Falls nearby, which offers a 10m drop to its swimming hole. If you are into swimming, Romanear waterfall would be ideal for you, with its wide swimming area.
Aside from nature, there is also a great array of eco-tours in Mondulkiri. They have a Coffee Plantation Resort in the area where you can try different beans and witness its harvesting process. You can also drop by at the Pou Lung Village where you get a chance to witness ancient sites and historical specimens. You can also shop for souvenirs, local artifacts, and handicraft in the village. After a busy day, head to the Phnom Doh Krokom Pagoda where you can enjoy a gorgeous sunset with incredible views of the hills and the sky.
